Grade Disputes & Grade Appeals
Challenges to grades alleged to be arbitrary, mistaken, or retaliatory.
Overview
A single grade can determine progression, graduation, scholarship eligibility, or standing in a competitive program. Courts generally defer to a faculty member’s academic judgment, so a grade appeal is strongest where the school failed to follow its grading policy, made a demonstrable error, or acted in bad faith or in retaliation.
I help students use the school’s grade-appeal procedure effectively and identify where the institution departed from it.
What I can help with
- Reviewing the grade, the syllabus, and the grade-appeal policy
- Identifying procedural errors, miscalculation, or bad faith
- Preparing the documentary record
- Drafting the formal grade appeal
- Escalating through the school’s review levels
- Preserving issues for any further action
